The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, referring to the union occurring between mind, body and spirit. Many people think yoga is just stretching. Yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing mobility, strength and flexibility. The amazing thing about yoga is how your practice will evolve and change as your body changes and strengthens; so although the poses themselves do not vary, your relationship to them will.

Most classes are taught in the traditional Hatha yoga with focus on the 8 Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga . In addition to practicing the poses, yoga classes may also include instruction on breath work, yoga’s ethical system of the yamas and niyamas, meditation techniques, and/or chakra/energy work. Specific yoga can be used for physical therapy on sore joints or muscles, core strength and back problems.

Once you begin to practice yoga regularly you are likely to notice many of the following common changes:

    • Happier / Balanced Mood
    • Decreased Back Pain
    • Enhanced Athletic Ability
    • Better Focus at Work
    • More Energy
    • Improved Sleep
    • A Calmer, Quieter Mind
    • Weight Loss
